EV & BESS — Emerging Risks

Designing for a new class of energy systems

Published
11 Jan 2022

Electric vehicles (EV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) introduce new fire behaviours and system demands. Active Fire addresses these modern challenges with a first-mover mindset: applying DfMA, digital monitoring, and specialised engineering practices while collaborating with industry bodies to codify best practice.

What’s changing

As energy systems scale across buildings and cities, fire protection must account for different operating profiles, enclosures, ventilation strategies, and incident response needs. Our stance: engineer for the environment you’re operating in, then back it with data, testing, and operational playbooks aligned to authorities and partners. (Active Fire’s leadership includes founding the Fire Protection Association Singapore (FPAS), a platform used to advance standards with the industry.)

How we approach EV/BESS projects

  1. Human-centred requirements – start with the safety of people using, operating, and maintaining the asset.
  2. Precision by design – apply DfMA to get critical assemblies factory-tested and ready for installation.
  3. Digital integration – instrument systems to feed AF Cloud for telemetry and event records throughout lifecycle.
  4. Partner with the ecosystem – use FPAS and allied networks to source and validate emerging solutions.

Proven capability, growing readiness

We are trusted across Singapore with 300+ projects delivered, and we carry that same engineering discipline into EV/BESS projects while continuing to expand regionally with partners.

“We lead with People, Process, Product, and Progress — delivering innovation where it matters most.”
