About This Project
In a significant expansion of its digital infrastructure, Internet Giant embarked on the construction of its third data centre in Singapore, marking a continued commitment to the region with an $850 million USD investment.
This 7-storey facility, following its predecessors launched in 2011 and 2015, is a testament to Internet Giant’s foresight in bolstering the digital economy and supporting the ever-growing demand for cloud services in Asia.
The Challenge
The project’s ambitions were met with complex and unique challenges, including the need to integrate the new building with an existing, fully operational data centre without disruptions to current operations.
This demanded meticulous planning and coordination to ensure uninterrupted service, alongside navigating a tight schedule, managing external risers, and addressing expansion joint considerations for interfacing works.
The critical nature of this project required extensive testing and commissioning to uphold the stringent reliability standards expected of a world-class data centre.
The Active Fire Solution
To meet these challenges, Active Fire employed cutting-edge fire safety technologies, including an aspirating smoke detection system and FM-approved expansion joints, complemented by an array of control valves modules and centralised compressor modules.
These solutions were designed not only to protect the facility’s vital infrastructure but also to ensure rapid response capabilities in the event of a fire, reflecting Google’s commitment to safety and operational excellence.
The Result
The deployment of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) practices played a pivotal role in the project’s success, leading to a remarkable 30% reduction in costs by minimising material waste and optimising manufacturing processes.
The construction schedule was significantly accelerated, achieving a 60% reduction in time, facilitated by better team coordination and the efficiency of plug-and-play installations.
Enhancement to quality assurance measures doubled, leading to a 95% reduction in installation errors and rework.
This meticulous attention to quality resulted in higher-quality fire protection systems, enhancing the facility’s reliability and performance.
Due to the overall cost savings and efficiency gains, Active Fire’s solutions contributed to a protected ROI increase of up to 35% and a 100% competitive advantage in the market.
Furthermore, the project showcased a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, achieving a 30% decrease in environmental impact through reduced carbon emissions and material conservation.
